And just like that, sweet summertime has ended and the jolt of cool weather has swiftly come upon us. I do love fall. The colors, the crisp air, the never knowing what to wear because you need ten layers to be comfortable each day.
It is a beautiful time to take notice of nature. Seeing the plants grow dormant for the winter and turn into warm and vibrant colors. The animals scurry around gathering food to tide them over. It's a flurry of activity that we often don't take the time to appreciate. I encourage you to take a minute and watch nature at work during this harvest season.
In the retail world it's the big push to make big sales for the holidays. I'm sure you've seen the big stores putting out Halloween decor just after Back to School, shortly followed by Christmas. It's a mad, furious dash to get it all out there to be consumed. But is that the message we want to send? Is that who we want to be?
What if instead of being a society of consumers, we are a society of appreciators? Who appreciate a well-made, hand crafted, sustainable product instead of a cheap plastic one made in a questionable way. Something that is heirloom quality and can be passed along for generations to enjoy.
Let's be consumers of good will, kindness, and good stewards of the planet rather than consumers of "stuff".
Happy Fall!
